President Biden Announces Israeli Proposal for Gaza Ceasefire

Biden Outlines Three-Part Plan

WASHINGTON – President Joe Biden announced Friday that Israel has proposed a three-part plan that would ultimately lead to a permanent cease-fire in the conflict with Hamas. The plan, which was outlined by Biden in a briefing with reporters, calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities, followed by negotiations on a long-term truce and the eventual lifting of the Israeli blockade on Gaza.

"I believe this is a real opportunity to end the violence and bring lasting peace to the region," Biden said. "I urge all parties to seize this opportunity and work towards a peaceful resolution of this conflict."

The proposal comes as the death toll in the conflict continues to rise, with more than 200 Palestinians and 10 Israelis killed in the fighting. The United Nations has warned that the humanitarian situation in Gaza is becoming increasingly dire, with hundreds of thousands of people displaced from their homes and access to food, water, and medical care becoming increasingly limited.

The Israeli government has welcomed the US proposal, saying that it is committed to finding a peaceful solution to the conflict. However, Hamas has not yet publicly responded to the plan.

The US has been working closely with both sides to try to broker a cease-fire, and Biden said that he is hopeful that the new proposal will be accepted. "I am confident that we can achieve a lasting peace if we all work together," he said.
